Camping at Rancho del Oso – Big Basin Redwoods State Park

Rancho del Oso map - detailThere are three campgrounds in Rancho del Oso: the drive-in Horse Camp (6 campsites), and two walk-in trail camps (6 campsites each, both less than 2 miles form the Ranger Station).

Reservations are required to camp at any of these campsites. Reservations can be made by calling Big Basin Redwoods Park Headquarters at (831) 338-8861, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays.

Walk-In Trail Camps

Twin Redwoods Trail CampThere are two primitive walk-in campgrounds, each less than 2 miles from the Rancho del Oso Ranger Station.

Alder Trail Camp is located approximately 1.5 miles inland (and 100′ elevation climb) from the Rancho del Oso Ranger Station along the Skyline to the Sea Trail. Six primitive campsites are located along scenic Waddell Creek. All food must be stored in the bear-proof locker and camp areas kept “Crumb Clean”. Water can be pumped from the nearby creek and no fires are allowed. An outhouse is stocked with toilet paper. Help to keep this pristine trail camp accessible by packing out all of your trash.

Twin Redwoods Trail Camp is located another ¼ mile up the trail and same elevation as Alder Trail Camp, approximately 1.75 miles inland from the Rancho del Oso Ranger Station along the Skyline to the Sea Trail. Six primitive campsites are located along scenic Waddell Creek.
